Delas Alas daughter testifies on Leviste murder case (5:50 p.m.)
MANILA -- The daughter of Rafael delas Alas who was shot dead by former Batangas governor Jose Antonio Leviste took the witness stand before the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) during the resumption of the trial of the murder case Wednesday.
In her testimony before the sala of Makati RTC Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda, Dina Sanchez said his father decided to cancel their earlier plan to go to the Divisoria flea market after Leviste asked him to report to work at the Leviste-owned LPL Tower in Makati on the morning of January 12, 2007.
Sanchez said the night before, his father told him he was not reporting for work that Friday as he would accompany her to Divisoria.
"We have talked Thursday evening of January 11 as he decided not to go to work because he will accompany me to Divisoria. After lunch, we are scheduled to meet in but we have cancelled it," said Sanchez in her hour-long testimony when asked by Senior State Prosecutor Emmanuel Velasco to narrate the day's events adding that Friday was usually "bonding time" for their family.
At the time, Sanchez said she was in Imus, Cavite where she was staying with her family while her father was in their Sampaloc residence.
She also testified that her 67-year-old father has many plans for them as she debunked the defense allegation that the elder delas Alas was planning to "die that day."
Sanchez likewise belied the defense allegation that her father has a "violent and pugnacious" character, saying his father's voice might have been mistaken as that of an angry man.
The defense has presented several witnesses during past hearings including Leviste and the victim's driver to back up their contention that delas Alas easily gets irritated and that days prior to the incident he was acting strangely. (AH/Sunnex)
