Ateneo tops 2007 bar exams

MANILA (Updated 4:44 p.m.) -- The Supreme Court (SC) released Saturday the much-awaited list of the 2007 bar examination passers.

The SC said out 5,626 who took the bar last 2007, only 1,289 passed or 22.91 percent.

Mercedita Ona, a graduate of the Ateneo Law School, topped the examination with an average of 83.85 percent.

She was followed by Juanita Ong from the University of the Philippines (UP) who garnered an average of 83.35 percent.

Ivanah Maanak, another Ateneo graduate, came third with 82.75 percent.

On the fourth spot is Jenny Aclan of University of San Carlos followed by John Anthony Calaruan of University of Nueva Caceres.

Other law graduates who completed the top 10 lists were: Karen Canullas (San Sebastian College) Cecille Mejia (Ateneo de Manila University) and Sheryl Ann Dizon (University of the Philippines) Marco Kua (San Beda College) Ruby Luy (Ateneo de Davao) Christian Ligo (University of Cebu) and Vivian Tan (University of the Philippines).

The 5,626 law graduates from 109 law schools nationwide took the examinations on the first four Sundays of September 2007 at the De La Salle University in Taft Avenue, Manila.

The list of names of bar passers can be viewed in LCD projectors displayed at the front yard of the SC near the Faura entrance.(Sunnex)
