3 NPA camps found in Samar (6:56 p.m.)

MANILA -- Government forces have discovered three camps of the communist New People's Army (NPA) in three separate combat operations in Samar, a military spokesman reported Tuesday.

Army spokesman Ernesto Torres said the first rebel camp discovered by members of Alpha Company, 63rd Infantry Battalion (IB) while conducting combat operations in Barangay Balud, Matuguinao, Western Samar last Saturday afternoon.

He said the second camp was discovered by the operating troops from Bravo Company, 63rd IB led by 2nd Lieutenant Marlo Balanlayos while conducting combat clearing operations somewhere in the area between Barangays Matambag and Osmeņa, both of Palapag, Northern Samar two days earlier.

Torres said the third camp, on the other hand, was discovered by a scout platoon from 14th IB led while clearing Oras-Arteche complex in Eastern Samar also on Thursday.

He said the troops recovered a bolt for M1 Garand rifle, three rounds ammunition for caliber .45 pistol, four rounds ammunition for caliber 30 M1 Garand, 10 meters flat cord wire, flash light and subversive documents. (VR/Sunnex)
