Arroyo celebrates with political allies, cabinet officials (3:48 p.m.)

MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo marked her 61st birthday in Malacaņang with cabinet officials, political allies and even bishops with a two-phase party that lasted until 1 a.m. Saturday.

According to Presidential Management Staff Cerge Remonde, the party was also political when one of the bishops lambasted ZTE witness Rodolfo Lozada Jr.

Palo, Leyte Archbishop Emeritus Pedro Dean also told Arroyo to take care of her health, Remonde said.

He added Dean was one of at least "five to six bishops" who celebrated a birthday mass for Arroyo at the Palace Heroes Hall at the stroke of midnight Friday.

Pampanga Archbishop Paciano Aniceto and Surigao Bishop Antonieto Cabahug were also present in the celebration.

Political allies who attended the party included House Speaker Prospero Nograles Jr. and senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Richard Gordon, Juan Miguel Zubiri and Ramon Revilla Jr. (JMR/Sunnex)
