Robbery, gang rape hit San Fernando
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Five young men invaded two houses in a subdivision, hogtied their victims, gang raped a 17-year-old girl and carted away P900,000 worth of belongings between late Friday and early Saturday morning.
It was like a gory movie about hideous villains. But it happened in real life -- in the City of San Fernando while most of the residents were fast asleep.

According to police authorities, five young men on board a black-colored Honda Accord entered Villa Corazon Subdivision at 10:30 p.m. Friday and parked in front of the residence of 44-year-old Jess Cora Dayrit at Ilang-Ilang Street.
The armed suspects entered the house and hogtied Dayrit, her son, and her son's three visitors who were reportedly having a drinking spree at the time.
The suspects herded the helpless victims inside a bedroom and ransacked every part of the house, taking jewelries, cell phones, grocery items, and other belongings worth P100,000.
Not satisfied, three of the suspects took turns in raping a 17-year-old female visitor of Dayrit's son.
After raping the victim, four of the suspects proceeded to the nearby residence of City Councilor Raul Macalino at the corner of Ilang-Ilang and Jasmin Streets, while the fifth suspect stayed in Dayrit's residence.
The suspects forcibly entered the councilor's house, hurt Macalino's wife and children, placed them inside a room, and took their cell phones, jewelries, cash money, a laptop computer, and other belongings worth P800,000.
The councilor was not home at the time the crime occurred.
A concerned neighbor noticed the commotion at Dayrit's house and called up the city police, which responded after about 30 minutes.
City Police Director Renato Soria who immediately responded to the call apprehended two of the suspects while they were leaving Macalino's house.
The suspects were identified as Ferdinand Caderas, 21, single, of Block 6, Bliss Compound in Barangay Mauway and John Ariel Santos, 23, single, of Buhayang Bato, Barangay Ilaya, both from Mandaluyong City.
Their companions who were able to escape were identified as alias "Bok," a certain Benny and one Anthony, all of Makati City.
The victims pointed to "Bok" as the mastermind.
Witnesses said policemen arrested three of the suspects but one of them was able to get away after he was placed inside the patrol car without a handcuff.
Macalino said he will urge his colleagues in the City Council to re-assess the peace and order situation here. He said increased police visibility and more aggressive crime prevention efforts should be undertaken in San Fernando City.
He added that drastic actions must be done if residents, including a city official and his family, are no longer safe even inside their homes.
Recovered from the arrested suspects were caliber .9 mm pistol with serial no. 8497U, caliber .45 mm pistol with serial no. 131032, loaded magazines for both firearms, and ammunitions.
Authorities said appropriate charges were being prepared against the suspects. (JAM/CTN/Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star General Santos. (April 6, 2008 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. |
