Muntinlupa warns rice traders vs hoarding (3:33 p.m.)

MANILA --Rice traders in Muntinlupa City has been warned by the City Government not to hoard rice or face charges and worst -- losing their license.

Muntinlupa City Mayor Aldrin San Pedro issued the warning Tuesday as the City Government wanted to ensure the steady supply of rice in the city amid the reported rice shortage.

San Pedro likewise directed the Business Permit and Licensing Office to dispatch personnel to strictly monitor the flow of rice citywide.

Though there is no reported rice hoarding in the city, San Pedro said the monitoring is necessary not only to ensure that there will be available rice in the market but also to discourage rice traders from hoarding rice.

"The monitoring team will scour the city to ensure that rice traders sell their rice on a regular basis so the public can buy them," San Pedro said.

The mayor urged the rice traders in the city not to hoard their rice and at the same time sell them according to the price allowed in the market.(AH/Sunnex)
