DAVAO CITY -- Authorities warned that with a crisis facing not just the country but also the whole world, crimes are sure to rise as well.

Davao City registered the highest increase with its 15.42 average monthly crime rate from a previous 10.60. The rest of the provinces averaged from 4 to 5.

Davao del Norte's average crime rate has remarkably decreased from a previous 8.03 to 5.31 for the first quarter of 2008.

The number of crimes against property also increased from 89 last year to 138 in January to March 2008. Davao City again registered the most number of incidents and the highest increase compared to last year with a previous of 39 to 76 this year.

With the increase in crime incidence, solution efficiency of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Southern Mindanao improved as well.

Last year, PNP Southern Mindanao registered 85.32 percent solution efficiency, while this year it has 89.16 percent efficiency for the period of January to March.

PNP Southern Mindanao has also launched its online website for citizens to file their reports and complaints to the police authorities, and be informed of the activities and programs of the police.

Chief Superintendent Andres Caro said their website is in line with PNP's Mamang Pulis Program.

Important documents can also be downloaded from their website www.pnppro11.com, like press releases, police community relations activities, anti-kotong programs, lists of wanted persons, as well as emergency hotlines and even tips on how to join the police force. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
