Armed men torch DAR in Kabunsuan By Malu Cadelina Manar Correspondent
COTABATO CITY -- Unidentified armed men torched the provincial office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Shariff Kabunsuan at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Superintendent Esmael Ali, chief of the Shariff Kabunsuan police, said the suspects arrived at the provincial DAR office in Barangay Dalican and disarmed the office guards.

They immediately poured gasoline on the building and set it on fire. Before they left the area, the suspects sprayed bullets overhead.
The suspects, on board a four-wheel vehicle, fled to the interior portion of Barangay Dalican, reports said.
According to Ali, the DAR provincial office had been receiving threats from still unidentified residents in the province demanding livelihood projects from management.
What puzzled authorities was the report that the attackers, before sprinkling gasoline into the building, snatched important documents from the office of the DAR provincial director.
Authorities have yet to find out why they were interested in those documents.
Once they determine the motive, police said they might be able to identify the possible "mastermind." (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro. (April 12, 2008 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. |
