'Hoarded' rice seized
MANILA -- Policemen confiscated hundreds of sacks of rice reportedly hoarded by a business enterprise in Silang town in Cavite, a spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the Southern Tagalog region reported.
Senior Inspector Pamela Helaga of the PNP Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) said the operation was prompted by information that Boardwalk Business Rental, owned by Melvin and Veronica Madera, is engaged in rice hoarding.
At 9 a.m. last Monday, Helaga said Silang policemen swooped down on the business firm located in Barangay Maguyam in the town after securing a search warrant from Judge Edwin Larida Jr.
Calabarzon Regional Police Director Ricardo Padilla said the operation was in line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's directive to hit hard against people engaged in the rice hoarding.
Seized from the warehouse of Boardwalk Business Rental were 334 bags of Thailand rice; 3,308 bags commercial rice; 24 cone of sacks thread; two weighing scale; 5,000 different empty sack bags; and 99 empty NFA sacks of rice.
Also confiscated were different paraphernalia for repacking of rice, one record book indicated the number of mixed of NFA rice and imported rice, and one small notebook indicated the number of NFA sacks they received.
"The said file of rice has no permit in stock up in the area. We will not stop in hunting the people behind the hoarding of NFA rice in the region," said Helaga. (Sunnex) |
