Gov't guarantees appeal for convicted OFW in Kuwait (11:17 a.m.)

MANILA -- Malacaņang assured that the government, through the embassy in Kuwait, would exhaust all legal means to save Filipina overseas worker Jakatia Mandon Pawa from hanging after being convicted Sunday for the killing of her employer's daughter last year.

"The embassy will continue assisting overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Pawa and appeal the verdict before Kuwait's court of appeals," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo said.

She said Philippine ambassador to Kuwait Ricardo Endaya is now monitoring the situation, confirming the death sentence against the 31-year-old lass from Zamboanga del Norte.

Endaya said Pawa was sentenced to death for the fatal stabbing of her employer's daughter, Dalal al-Naqi, last May 14 in the Al-Qurain district, south of Kuwait City.

Reports said Pawa stabbed the victim several times while she slept, before jumping from the second floor of their house. (JMR/Sunnex)
