Ombud upholds charges vs ex-justice chief (5:33 p.m.)
MANILA -- The Office of the Ombudsman maintained its resolution to pursue the filing of criminal charges against former Justice Secretary Hernando Perez, his wife, and two others.
The Motion for Reconsideration and the Motion to Dismiss, among other motions filed by Perez, were denied for lack of merit by Ombudsman Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez.
Gutierrez said, "After a perspicacious review of the records, the undersigned found nothing that would indicate that there is reason to disturb the earlier findings of the Special Panel."
Perez was subject to extortion and graft and corruption charges, particularly for the US$2 million that the former justice secretary allegedly extorted from former Manila Representative Mark Jimenez. (JLCP/JLK/Sunnex) |
