Perez, others to face court on May 5 (2:22 p.m.)

MANILA -- Former justice secretary Hernando Perez, his wife, and businessmen Ramon Arceo and Ernest Escaler are set to face the anti-graft court on May 5 in the afternoon for their arraignment pertaining to the robbery/extortion charges filed against them.

The arrest warrants issued against the four will no longer be enforced after bail bonds were filed for their temporary liberty, the Sandiganbayan said.

Former Manila representative Mark Jimenez filed a complaint against Perez and the other accused for allegedly extorting US$2 million from him after saying no to the execution of affidavits implicating associates of former President Joseph Estrada in the former president's plunder case.

Another arraignment is also set for Perez and his co-accused on May 16, this time for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. (Sunnex)
