Police recover land mine in Sulu (6:22 p.m.) By Bong Garcia
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Police authorities in Sulu, south of this city, have recovered a landmine along the highway in one of the province's 19 towns.
The landmine was recovered on Thursday, a day after government security forces captured a bomb-making camp of the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf bandits and Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) militants in the jungles of Sulu.
Senior Superintendent Julasirim Kasim, Sulu police director, said the landmine was discovered around 5 p.m. planted along the road in the village of Gata-Gata, Panglima Estino town.
Kasim said he didn't see any connection between the planting of the landmine and the military "surgical strike" against the bomb-making camp of the Abu Sayyafs and JIs.
He said the landmine was detonated on Friday morning upon his directive. (Sunnex) |
