Tropical storm 'Butchoy' intensifies (1:02 p.m.)
THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) reported Wednesday that tropical storm "Butchoy" intensifies further and continues to move northeastward.
The eye of the storm, as of 10 a.m Wednesday, is located at 650 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, and continues to move with a strength of 105 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It is expected to move north northeast at 17 kph.
Pag-asa expects "Butchoy" to be at 859 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes by tomorrow morning. By Sunday morning, it is expected to be at 1,200 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan and at 1,350 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes, or 830 kilometers Southeast of Okinawa, Japan by Monday morning.
The storm is also expected to bring the Southwest monsoon and rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes over these target areas are advised to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides.
The public and disaster coordinating councils concerned are also advised to take appropriate actions and watch for Pag-asa's next bulletin to be issued at 11 p.m. Friday. (Press release) |
