Two of the nine convicted mutineers were sentenced to life imprisonment. They were Army captains Milo Maestrecampo and Gerardo Gambala.
The seven other junior officers meanwhile were penalized with a 12-year jail terms.
All convicted mutineers were restricted from rejoining military service.
Army Captain Gerardo Gambala appealed on April 11, on behalf of his fellow convicted soldiers, for presidential pardon.
The mutineers have expressed remorse for their adventurism. They apologized to the President and the nation for their actions and the resulting damage to the economy. (Sunnex)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star Manila. (May 12, 2008 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. |
