LTFRB postpones fare hike for PUVs (1:35 a.m.)
MANILA -- The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has resolved to call off the P.50 provisional fare increase for public utility vehicles (PUVs) as the agency needs to examine further its implications.
The fare increase was announced on Sunday and would have been implemented on Wednesday, although an official order had not yet been released.
Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Leandro Mendoza defended the postponement, saying they are still considering other support mechanisms for public transport drivers and operators other than the fare increase.
The support mechanisms –- P2 fuel subsidy and tax exemption on spare parts -- will be studied by the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) on their feasibility.
This issue will be further discussed in the upcoming Cabinet meeting in Bohol on Tuesday. (Sunnex) |
