PDEA confirms selling of 'substandard' shabu By Ruby P. Silubrico
ILOILO CITY -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Western Visayas revealed that due to the present scarcity or limited supply of prohibited drugs, drug dealers are now circulating "low-grade" shabu.
According to a lawyer who requested anonymity, a drug user told him that the shabu he bought was not pure. The same user suspected it was mixed with other ingredients such as powdered naphthalene balls or mothballs.

PDEA Regional Director Roybel Sanchez confirmed the information, saying some drug pushers now are even using menthol candies, powdered it and mixed with a small amount of shabu just to gain more profit due to low supply of pure shabu.
"Maybe they are affected by the limited supply of drugs here, that's why they are deceiving their buyers, which is an advantage for us because it simply shows that our massive campaign against the illegal drug trade is effective," Sanchez said.
Sanchez also revealed that the price of shabu now reaches P8,000 per gram compared to previous months' P7,000 per gram.
"We are appealing to the community to help us in our campaign by giving us information regarding those who sell illegal drugs in order for us to solve this problem," Sanchez said.
Last Tuesday, personnel of Bombo Radyo turned over a sachet of suspected shabu to the office of PDEA-Western Visayas. An unidentified person surrendered the shabu to Bombo Radyo. (Sun.Star Iloilo/Sunnex)
