PPCRV: We need new Comelec commissioner (11 a.m.)

THE Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) said there is a need to appoint a new Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner.

In a statement PPCRV Chairperson Henrietta de Villa on Thursday said with the death of Commissioner Romeo Brawner, it is more needed to press for the appointment of three more officials to complete the seven-man commissioners.

"We are moved even more to press for the appointment of new Comelec commissioners now totaling three," she said.

She added that, "this will gravely affect the forthcoming Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) polls especially at this crucial time of the implementation of its poll automation."

On Thursday, Brawner succumbed to a heart attack while he was at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City.

With his death, the Comelec now has only four officials led by Chairman Jose Melo and Commissioners Rene Sarmiento, Nicodemo Ferrer and Moslemen Macarambon. (FP/Sunnex)
