Police chief axed for illegal logs By Aquilez Z. Zonio Correspondent
GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- A police chief in one of the towns in Sarangani province was relieved from his post after residents reported his transport of 500 illegally cut lumbers using a police patrol vehicle.
Inspector Lolito Dalde, Maitum police chief, allegedly left the town early dawn Thursday aboard a patrol loaded with lumber.

Vigilant residents tipped off Dalde's activities to Governor Miguel Dominguez and Provincial Police Director Danilo Peralta.
When Dalde passed by the police outpost in Maasim, he was flagged down but he reasoned out that the lumber will be used by the Sarangani provincial police headquarters.
Peralta, however, learned that the Sarangani police are not in need of lumber.
"I am now conducting investigation. Inspector Dalde will be relieved from his post so that investigation will not be hampered," Peralta told Sun.Star Davao.
Peralta said it was the first time such incident happened in his command. He vowed similar incident would no longer happen in the future.
When asked about the reason for the swift and decisive action, Peralta said: "Well, trabaho lang, walang personalan. It's what I'm paid for by the government."
A visibly irked Governor Dominguez meanwhile said that aside from Dalde's immediate relief, investigation would also be conducted to determine his administrative liability.
"I've learned that he's (Dalde) constructing a house in General Santos City. He made a big mistake and he should suffer the consequences," Dominguez said.
Dominguez said the province has an existing ordinance prohibiting the transport of lumber, charcoal and other forest products at night from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Sarangani province passed said ordinance in an attempt to put an end to the transport of various forest products from illegal sources.
Dominguez hailed the support and vigilance shown by residents of Maitum, resulting to the discovery of Dalde's alleged illegal activity. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star General Santos. (June 8, 2008 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. |
