Court sheriff hesitant to demolish school By Jay Dooma Balnig
ILOILO CITY -- Court Sheriff Jerry Sumaculub is having second thoughts in executing the demolition order against Jaro II Elementary School.
He said the demolition of Jaro II Elementary School might push through. However, he added that Solicitor General Agnes Devenadera also cautioned him against the execution of the demolition order.

Sumaculub said it is not easy to proceed with the demolition since teachers and students are still using the school structures and would be displaced if demolished.
The demolition is set to be implemented on June 16 as ordered by Judge Rene Hortillo of branch 31. The school's administration was notified about the demolition and was given 10 days to prepare.
Meanwhile, City Schools Superintendent Erlinda Gencaya said the school is helpless on the issue, as the court has already decided in favor of the lot owner who wants his property back.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, for his part, said it is difficult to provide a new location for Jaro II due to the high price of real estate properties nowadays.
The school administration earlier planned to hold two to three class sessions in one classroom should the 27-classroom school buildings are demolished.
The property, which is about 5,000 square meters, was contested by the heir of Serafin Hinolan in Barangay Desamparados, Jaro, as the lawful owner. The government lost from the Hinolan family on the said cadastral legal battle, which reached the Court of Appeals. (Sun.Star Iloilo/Sunnex)
