Marine offensive vs. Sayyafs underway in Sulu (12:08 p.m.)

MANILA -- Task Force Comet has already started an all-out military operation in Patikul town in Sulu on Thursday morning after kidnappers of broadcaster Ces Drilon, cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion, Mindanao professor Octavio Dinampo and driver Angelo Valderama were seen in one of its villages.

Drilon, Encarnacion, and Dinampo were freed on Tuesday and Valderama was freed last June 12.

Marine Major General Juancho Saban, commander of the task force said they have already deployed soldiers from the Special Operations Platoon of the Philippine Marines to search for the bandits in the area.

Firing of artillery has also ensued in the town, the Marine officer said.

They are careful however not to harm civilians. (Sunnex)
