By Bong Garcia

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Seven people, including four policemen, were wounded in separate attacks in two areas of the Zamboanga Peninsula, the police reported Saturday.

The Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office (ZPPO) said the four policemen were injured in a grenade attack Friday evening in the town of Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Another gun attack on Saturday morning, this time at the public market of Zamboanga City, hurt three victims, who were all civilians.

The ZPPO reported that the four policemen were injured when an unidentified man lobbed a grenade at the public comfort station, which is just beside the police station in downtown Kabasalan.

The police station and the public comfort station are located near the premises of Kabasalan public market.

The ZPPO identified the four injured policemen as SPO2 Ramon Merida, SPO2 Glicerio Esparagera, PO3 Carmelo Toledo, and PO2 Joel Maala, who were all on duty at the time of the incident.

The victims in the Zamboanga City public market attack Saturday morning meanwhile were not immediately available.

The police learned that an unidentified man fired indiscriminately his caliber .45 pistol while several people were busy on marketing chores.

The suspects fled while the market goers panic and sought for cover.

Investigations are underway to unmask the suspects of the two separate incidents, the ZPPO reported. (Sunnex)
