Anwar files complaint vs national police chief, attorney general (4:03 p.m.)
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has filed a police complaint against the national police chief and the attorney general.
Anwar's lawyer Sankaran Nair says Anwar alleges in Tuesday's report that Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan and Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail fabricated evidence against him when he stood trial for sodomy in 1988.
The complaint was filed at a police station in Shah Alam, the capital of Selangor state that adjoins Kuala Lumpur.
Anwar was fired as deputy prime minister in 1988 after being accused of sodomizing his driver and an aide. He was tried and convicted but a higher court overturned the conviction in 2004. He was again accused of sodomy last week by an aide, but he has denied the allegation. (AP) |
