Marina: Sulpicio insurance consistent with guidelines (10:30 a.m.)

MANILA -- The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) said the insurance coverage given by Sulpicio Lines Inc. to victims of the m/v Princess of the Stars tragedy corresponds to its new guidelines on passenger liability insurance.

Marina Administrator Vicente Suazo Jr. said the insurance coverage conforms to the new policy that was formulated by the agency and approved by the Insurance Commission.

With this, Suazo urged lawyers of Insurance Commission and the insurance company of Sulpicio Lines to assist relatives of the victims in the processing of claims at the help desks located in the Manila and Cebu offices of the shipping company.

The help desks will help ensure that the victims' relatives processing their claims will have access to legal and professional assistance from concerned and relevant entities.

Sulpicio Lines is providing P200,000 death benefit to the victims and additional accidental benefits, such as accidental medical expense for treatment of injuries and repatriation expenses for transport of mortal remains back to their residences. (FP/Sunnex)
