Diarrhea hits Negros Oriental city with 6 deaths (11:02 a.m.) By Victor L. Camion
MANILA -- The Department of Health expressed alarm over the spread of diarrhea cases in Guihulngan City with six reported deaths.
As of Wednesday, there were at least 70 reported cases.
The DOH, however, is yet to recommend the declaration of an outbreak in the area, according to Dr. Socrates Villamor, chief Epidemiology Surveillance Unit in Negros Oriental.
Villamor explained that all barangays in Guihulngan City were hit by diarrhea.
He said the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (Resu) of the DOH
in Central Viayas is conducting in depth investigation to determine the cause of diarrhea cases in the city.
Dr. Villamor said diarrhea cases mostly come from water contamination.
In this connection, DOH gathers samples from Guihulngan Water Works
System as the main source of drinking water in the area.(Sunnex) |
