British tourist drowns at Bataan Falls (11:57 a.m.)

MANILA -- Police say a British tourist has drowned after being swept away by a strong current at a popular waterfall west of Manila.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan says 56-year-old Richard Kidd, from Gateshead in England, drowned Saturday while swimming alone in Bataan's Dunsulan Falls.

The provincial police chief said Monday that Kidd went to the tourist spot with his British girlfriend and her father, who are residents of Bataan.

Police investigator Kristoffer Mendoza says Kidd was swept away as he swam below the water cascade, which was swollen from rains. (AP)
