Dr. Ricardo Audan, spokesperson of the Davao Medical Center (DMC), identified the victim as Zara Fe Abellero, a resident of Mabini Extension, Digos City and a fourth year college student of Computer Science at the Cor Jesus College. Audan said the victim was hit by shrapnel on the stomach and died Friday dawn.
A Davao Metro Shuttle Bus was bombed in Digos City on Thursday noon.
The bus is owned by the Davao Reyer Transport Company, a company of the family of Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy.
Based on records of the City Disaster Coordinating Council, the number of those wounded reached 34 with one victim, the bus conductor, already released from the hospital.
Five other victims who were seriously wounded and initially brought to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital remain at the DMC.
The seriously wounded victims are identified as Fedelito Recana; Dexter Maldas, 26; and PO1 Andres Alfonso, a police from Padada, Davao del Sur. The three were all hit by shrapnel on the feet. Ricardo Teongson, who sustained second-degree burns, is still under observation at the burn center in DMC.
The rest of the wounded victims are in different hospitals in Digos City.
Digos City Mayor Arsenio Latasa vowed to give medical assistance to all blast victims. The mayor also condemned the bombing, which he said aims to sabotage the economy of the province.
Latasa is awaiting the results of the investigation to determine if the Al-Khobar group was behind the bombing.
However, he also stressed he is not putting the blame on the police or the bus company for failing to enforce tight security measures.
Initial investigations by the local government showed that a female passenger left a bag containing the explosive inside the bus.
Authorities are still trying to determine the composition of the bomb, which was planted four days before the State of the Nation Address of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on July 28.
