2 gas boys killed in Lilo-an robbery

CEBU CITY -- Two gasoline pump boys were killed while a security guard was seriously wounded after they were allegedly robbed in Sitio Looc, Barangay Poblacion Lilo-an before dawn Monday.

Killed on the spot were Johnny Arnecoso, 16, of Mandaue City and Erwin Pakatang, 19, of Batuan, Bohol.

They worked as pump boys for the RKS gasoline station, which sold Beilin gasoline from Zhuhai, China.

Seriously wounded was security guard John Rey Tizon of the Extreme Force Security Services. He was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Tizon suffered stab and gunshot wounds in the chest while his head was struck with a blunt object.

Police have held a fellow worker who remained unharmed but had inconsistencies in his statement.

Jose Kelly Quimson was made to undergo a paraffin test and is under custodial investigation. He reportedly claimed that four men robbed the store but he was not there when it happened.

What baffled police investigators was that his pants had bloodstains.

Lilo-an Police Chief Ramon Ortiz Sr. said they are seriously looking into an inside job angle saying only someone from the inside would know how much money the shop had.

The Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco) recovered a shotgun, a knife, a piece of wood, two 12-gauge shotgun bullets, an empty shell and two cellular phones.
The cash vault containing P200,000 was emptied.

Owner Roland Sanoria said the gas station had started operating in January.

Though the gas station closed at 10 p.m., the pump boys slept in a building that was to become a convenience store.

Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Carmelo Valmoria said they were trying to find out if the employees were fighting among themselves.

There were no other witnesses to the incident because it happened at 1:30 a.m.

A man aboard a multicab passed by the Lilo-an Police Station at about 2 a.m. to inform them that he had a wounded security guard and that he was taking him to a hospital. The initial report was that the gas station had been robbed.

Valmoria said Arnecoso and Pakatang will also be subjected to a paraffin test.

In Balamban town, a woman who sold livestock for a living was also shot and killed in a robbery Sunday night.

Maria Wilma Montero was aboard a tricycle with driver Jovencio Tortuga and two helpers Marites Melgar and Sarisa Mejias in Barangay Aliwanag, Balamban when Matoy Manayaga allegedly blocked them.

He reportedly poked a .45 pistol at Montero and shot her in the right arm, which went through her body. She was taken to the Balamban District Hospital but she died along the way.

Montero's bag was snatched from her. While they were not sure how much was in it, Valmoria said they estimated the loss at P100,000.

Montero hails from Mindanao and reportedly brought Manayaga with her when she moved to Cebu.

Valmoria said they are now trying to find out if robbery was the only motive for the killing or if there was something else that prompted Manayaga to stage the heist. (Mia E. Abellana of Sun.Star Cebu)
