Classes suspended in Pasay, Malabon (3:35 p.m.)

MANILA -- The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday suspended classes at all levels in cities of Pasay and Malabon due to the possibility of a heavy downpour.

DepEd also fears flooding that might result from the expected high tide.

In an advisory issued at around 11:30 Friday morning, Pasay city school's division superintendent Rosalinda Tongco said City Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad issued the suspension order.

Covered by the suspension were the city's 27 public elementary and high schools, and 40 private schools.

Pasay City DepEd's education supervisor for private schools Solidad Soliman said only the Sta. Clara Parish School carried on with their classes because examinations had to be completed first before the students would be sent home.

The cancellation came hours after the local government of Malabon City announced the deferment of classes in all of the city's 28 public elementary schools and seven public high schools. (Press release)
