Palace to talk with Ramos on governance (1:18 p.m.)
MANILA - Deputy Presidential Spokesman Anthony Golez said Malacaņang is open for a dialogue with former president Fidel Ramos or any other "well-meaning parties" on matters of governance and the country's welfare.
Golez made the statement as he reiterated President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's call for everyone to work with government in addressing the problems faced by the country especially the rising prices of fuel and food.
"We reiterate the call of our president, President Arroyo, for all sides to work together and must have a sense of shared responsibility in order for our people and our country to move forward and go through our problems successfully," he said.
"We are always open for dialogue on matters of governance and our nation's welfare with all meaning partners," he added.
Ramos said Arroyo needs to improve her performance to meet her goals in the social development, economic progress and peace and security after the Philippines fell 13 places in Human Development Index (HDI) standards of the United Nations (UN), from 77th to 90th place.
The HDI is a country's average achievements in three basic dimensions of human development -- long and healthy life, knowledge, and decent living standard.
HDI covers 175 of the 193 UN member countries, with "1" as the county with highest rank. (JMR/Sunnex) |
