Comelec foregoes special elections (12:20 p.m.)
MANILA -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday dismissed the possibility of conducting special election in areas where voting did not take place.
Comelec chairman Jose Melo said it would no longer be important to hold special elections since the votes in these areas are very menial and will no longer affect the results of the recently held political exercises in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm).
“Anything that will be done will be futile… it won’t have any effect on the result of our elections,” he said.
During Monday’s Armm polls, Melo said two barangays in Sumisip Basilan, namely Tumahubong and Baiwas involving 1,896 voters failed to vote following the ballot box snatching that happened hours before the voting starts.
Armm acting director Teopisto Elnas Jr. said the groups involved in the ballot box snatching remain unidentified but authorities are conducting their investigation. (MSN/Sunnex) |
