Marine officer killed in ambush (8:04 p.m)
By Bong Garcia

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits killed a Philippine Marine officer in an ambush Tuesday in the island province of Sulu.

Major General Juancho Sabban, chief of the military's Joint Task Force Comet (JTFC), identified the slain marine officer as Captain Abduhari Sulani.

Sulani is a native of Indanan, Sulu. He was the commanding officer of the 81st Marine Company.

Sulani was said to be on board his motorcycle coming from Buhanginan village, Patikul en route of Jolo, the capital of Sulu, when ambushed by the Abu Sayyaf bandits.

Responding troops from the Army's Engineering Battalion brought Sulani to the hospital.

He however succumbed to nine bullet wounds. (BPG/Sunnex)
