Retired cops sentenced for graft (11:26 a.m.)
THE Sandiganbayan has convicted a retired police colonel and two of his former subordinates of graft in connection with the alleged ghost purchases of P8-million worth of combat clothing and individual equipment (CCIE) for police personnel in 1992.
Convicted were retired Senior Superintendent Arnulfo Obillos, Chief Inspector Virgilio V. Vinluan and Special Police Officer 1 Ramon Lihaylihay.
They were sentenced to a jail term of nine years and ordered to jointly reimburse the government the entire P8 million.
The anti-graft court’s Fifth Division said it found that none of the supposed purchases were actually delivered and distributed to the alleged recipient units of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
It also held that there was sufficient evidence to establish the existence of conspiracy among seven of the 10 defendants originally charged in the case. (Sunnex)
