Bermejo was lying face down on the floor with the 12-inch knife still sticking out of her back when found by his sister, Rosalina Sinco.
Police personnel responded to the crime scene after Sinco reported to them the incident.
In a radio interview, Sinco said she went over her sister's house and had a little chat with her about 7 a.m. Sinco lived just a few blocks away from Bermejo's place.
She said she returned to her sister's residence about 11 a.m. There was no answer when she called out to the victim, thus she decided to enter the house where she found drops of blood on the floor.
Moments later, Sinco said she found her sister drenched in blood and covered with a doormat.
The 73-year-old Bermejo was rushed to the West Visayas State University Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival. She succumbed to four stab wounds in her back.
A gardener of the Kahirup Village meanwhile said that he saw a man enter Bermejo's house about 10 a.m. Later he heard the victim arguing with the man.
Edgar Peñaflor described the man to be between 5'5" to 5'6" tall with a clean cut hair.
Robbery is one of the angles being looked into as the drawers in the victim's bedroom were forcibly opened.
Probers are also looking into the possibility that the killer might have formerly worked in the house of the victim.
Initial information states that Bermejo fired some of her house servants due to misunderstandings.
Investigation still continues as of Thursday and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is yet to identify the identity of the suspect. (Sun.Star Iloilo/Sunnex)
