Davao: Ulamas want Davao mayor to lead peace process (5:53 p.m.)

DAVAO CITY -- Ulamas in southern Mindanao will appeal to Malacanang to revive peace talks with the Moro rebels and endorsed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to head the peace panel.

The Ulama League of the Philippines for Southern Mindanao, composed of some 12 Aleems (Bishops) and Ustadz (Pastors), called on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to seriously consider Duterte to lead in the peace process.

In a letter addressed to President Arroyo, the regional group of ULP said they highly "recommend Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to be on the Government Peace Panel. We all know him as a man of integrity who has the political will and a man of accomplishment."

The group said Duterte has been known as a strong leader, whose heart is solely for the good and welfare of the people. (Sunnex)
