Husband kills wife due to jealousy (12:23 a.m.)
By Annabelle L. Ricalde

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The niece-in-law of Cagayan de Oro 1st District Representative Rolando Uy was shot dead Tuesday evening by her husband who then committed suicide, police investigators said.

Diana Rose Lagamon, 31, was shot in the head and abdomen by her husband, Stephen, also 31, in their unit at Roa Apartments in Ramiroville, Macanhan, Barangay Carmen.

Stephen, an electrician and cell phone mechanic, then shot himself in the mouth, according to Dr. Joe Martin Fuentes, medico legal officer of the PNP Crime Lab Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco).

Fuentes said jealousy apparently drove Stephen to kill his wife and then himself.

"Malapitan lahat ang entry points ng bala in fact natamaan ang liver ng wife pero `yung sa husband tumagos sa back portion ng head niya ang bala," Fuentes told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Diana works at the congressional office of Congressman Uy in Barangay Carmen as media relation officer.

Fuentes said a caliber .38 revolver with six bullets was recovered by the Soco personnel near the left hand of the husband who was already dead when police arrived.

He said they also took three cell phones believed to be owned by the couple to look for incriminating text messages. Reports said that Stephen had a jealous fit after seeing a text message allegedly from Diana's friends.

"We will not discount all possibilities but as of now di pa rin namin puwedeng i-confirm na text message ang reason nagselos ang husband," Fuentes said.

Senior Police Officer 3 Edmund Leyros of the Carmen Police Station said neighbors heard the couple fighting at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Leyros said the neighbors then heard three successive shots from the couple's room.

Neighbors rushed Diana to Madonna and Child Hospital in Barangay Carmen where she died despite efforts by doctors to save her life.

"Maayo gani kay wala naigo ang one-year-old nila nga anak nga didto gihapon sa kuwarto," said Maricar, Diana's younger sister.

According to her, the couple's three children were inside the room when the couple started fighting. She said neighbors told her that they overheard Diana shouting "gawas mo mga anak" before the gunshots rang out.

Ronald Oras, younger brother of Diana, said his brother-in-law arrived around 5 p.m. from Manolo Fortich town, Bukidnon where he operates a cell phone repair shop.

The 54-year-old Erma Lagamon, Stephen's mother, confirmed that her son had a jealous fit since a month ago. (Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro/Sunnex)
