Group to ink ties with Canadian provinces (2:56 p.m.)

THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) has created a team that would implement labor agreements with western Canadian provinces.

The agreements aim to provide Filipino workers greater access to employment opportunities in the said country.

Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito Roque created a composite team tasked to work out mechanisms for the implementation of the memoranda of understanding (MOU) which the DOLE entered into with the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Manitoba.

Undersecretary Luzviminda Padilla will head the team together with technical representatives from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), and the Dole Canadian Desk as members.

The Dole forged the MOUs with the provincial governments of Canada to strengthen areas of cooperation with the Philippines in the employment and deployment of Filipino workers there. (FP/Sunnex)
