10 city officials put under a microscope
BAGUIO CITY -- The Office of the Ombudsman is subjecting at least 10 government officials in Baguio City to a lifestyle check.
Adela Esteban, director-in-charge of the Baguio field office of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), said the office has been requested to furnish personal data sheets of about 10 Baguio-based government agency officials to the Office of the Ombudsman for Luzon.

The CSC is assisting the Ombudsman in the investigation of abusive government officials by providing information that would help the commission in its investigation of the officials.
Esteban said her office has furnished about 10 sets of personal data sheets of government officials based in Baguio to the Office of the Ombudsman. She declined to name names for confidentiality purposes.
She said some of the officials who are being subjected to an inquiry have already reached 30 years in government service. "Others are new," Esteban said.
Lifestyle checks are usually conducted on government officials who are accused of failing to justify their possessions or those who could not explain how they acquired their wealth, as part of government's campaign to cleanse the government service of corrupt officials.
CSC officials said lifestyle checks would only prosper if there were complainants.
"Formal complaints are needed, because these would serve as basis for the conduct of investigations," CSC-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Lorenzo Danipog said. (Jane Cadalig of Sun.Star Baguio/Sunnex)
