Suspect in Marines' beheading nabbed (2:25 p.m.)
MANILA -- A suspect in the July 2007 massacre of 14 Marine soldiers, 10 of them beheaded and mutilated, in Basilan Province was arrested in Zamboanga City, a police official said Tuesday.
Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (Pacer) Chief Leonardo Espina said Abdulkab Balahim, a member of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf group, was arrested by Pacer policemen last Saturday.
The arrest was in coordination with the Intelligence Security Group of the Army and 9th Regional Mobile Group at the intersection of Masuhod drive and Talon-talon in the city, added Espina.
Judge Leo Principe of the Isabela City Regional Trial Court has issued a warrant for Balahim's arrest in connection with the July 10 incident.
Balahim is in the list of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) most wanted persons, said Espina. The interior and defense departments have offered P500,000 for information that would lead to his arrest. (VR/Sunnex) |
