Nina hits northern Luzon (1:23 p.m.)

AS OF 10 a.m. Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that Typhoon "Nina" is 150 kilometers (kms) east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kms per hour (kph).

On Tuesday morning, it is expected to be 230 kms northwest of Laoag City and 670 kms west of Basco, Batanes, the weather bureau reported.

Luzon and Visayas, particularly the western sections, will experience rain brought about by the typhoon.

Signal No. 3 is raised in Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan, Calayan Group of Islands, Ilocos Norte, Apayao; Signal No. 2 in Isabela, Kalinga, Abra, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur; and Signal No. 1 in Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Tarlac, Zambales, and Pampanga. (Sunnex)
