Troops rescue 2 children, capture 'abductors'
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) 6 troops rescued Sunday two children who were held in captivity for five days and captured two of the suspected abductors in a rescue operation in the hinterlands of Sulu province.
Colonel Eugenio Clemen, chief of the 3rd Marine Brigade, said the captives were rescued in the village of Anuling in Patikul town, said to be the turf of Abu Sayyaf leader Radulan Sahiron.

Clemen said the victims -- Ben Austine, 3, and Benedict, 2 -- were snatched in the morning of September 16 at their residence in Kakuyagan village, Jolo, the capital of Sulu. The parents of both victims are businessmen.
The suspects were identified as belonging to the Hajal Hatae group. It was not immediately known whether they are allied with Abu Sayyaf bandits who have been engaged in kidnapping activities.
Clemen said the victims' parents informed them that Ben and Benedict were brought by Hatae's group to Anuling village in Patikul town.
Hatae, the group's leader, demanded P1 million for the release of the two children, according to Clemen.
He said the MBLT 6 led by Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Larida planned the rescue operations when the parents of the two children sought the assistance of the Philippine Marines in the afternoon of September 20.
The rescue operation was carried out around 4:30 a.m. Sunday and the Marines successfully rescued the two children and captured two of the suspects.
Clemen identified the captured suspects as Jamiri Jalisan, the father of Hajal's wife, and Julmina Hatae, Hajal's wife.
The suspects were placed under investigation at the headquarters of the 3rd Marine Brigade.
Joint Task Force Comet (JTFC) chief Major General Juancho Sabban commended Clemen and the MBLT 6 troops headed by Larida for successfully accomplishing their objectives.
Sabban attributed the success of the rescue operation the parents trusting and cooperating with the military in the province of Sulu. (Bong P. Garcia/Sunnex)
