BFAD: Lab tests for Chinese milk done in 2 weeks (3:01 p.m.)
MANILA -- A maximum of two weeks would be needed for the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) to complete the laboratory test on the recalled milk products in the market that were imported from China.
BFAD director Leticia Gutierrez said this after the Department of Health (DOH) imposed a total ban on all milk producers coming from China following the reported spread of contaminated infant formulas in the Asian region last week which sickened over 50,000 Chinese children and killed four infants.
“If everything goes well, maybe in one or two weeks it will be available for the public already," Gutierrez said.
She explained that milk has several substances and components that need to be separated first and this requires some time for them to accurately determine if there are contaminants included in the products. (MSN/Sunnex) |
