Fernando to terminate traffic enforcer (11:29 a.m.)

MANILA -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said it is planning to sack the traffic enforcer who tolerated the violations of the “killer” bus driver who figured in an accident along Edsa.

MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando said the agency will not tolerate any traffic enforcer who fails to implement traffic rules and regulations.

It will also run after enforcers who turn a blind eye on the violations of some drivers.

Fernando was frustrated with a traffic enforcer who allowed Joanna Jess bus driver Martinito Madrid to continue driving despite a string of traffic offenses.

“I have ordered MMDA Traffic Operations Center Executive Director Angelito Vergel de Dios to look for the enforcer and sacked him if found remiss in his duties to enforce the law,” Fernando said.

De Dios has control and supervision over the agency’s traffic management function and the 2,000 traffic enforcers deployed in Metro Manila. (AH/Sunnex)
