Information obtained by Sun.Star Davao said that Qualbar was on his way home to Sitio Nursery, Barangay Ngan when unidentified armed men onboard four motorcycles shot him.
Qualbar succumbed to four gunshot wounds on his back.
Karapatan secretary general Kelly Delgado said that from 2001 until present, there have already been 83 militant leaders killed nationwide, making Qualbar the 84th.
"We strongly condemn his killing. Before his death, Danny had death threats because of his active involvement in people's struggle for justice. The local government of ComVal should be alarmed and look into this case," Delgado said.
Delgado also said that Qualbar was the third among the progressive group members who were killed this year within the Davao Region.
Last May, Celso "Ka Celso" Pojas, 45, secretary general of the Farmers Association of Davao City (FADC) and spokesperson for Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas-Southern Mindanao Region was shot dead by two armed men outside his residence in Maa, Davao City.
In August, Roel Doratot, 33, also an organizer of Bayan Muna in Monkayo was shot at Purok Narra, Barangay Banlag in Monkayo.
The last two killings have remained unsolved to date. (GLP/Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
