Pacman website records 80T unique hits

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- An unofficial boxing website has registered 80,000 unique hits on the day Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao dealt Oscar De La Hoya his most humiliating loss, a web designer said.

Dong Secuya, web designer and owner of Mannypacquiao.ph, said it was by far the biggest unique visit to the website since it was created in 2003, months after Pacquiao demolished Marco Antonio Barrera in 11 rounds.

Secuya said the website now ranks second among many boxing sites and could well overtake Boxrec.com, following Manny's spectacular conquest of De La Hoya, the boxing world's biggest draw.

Secuya, who is based in Cebu and a noted website developer, said he created the site as a forum and avenue for avid Filipino boxing fans who have been following the boxing career of the Filipino southpaw.

He later created Philboxing.com as a spin-off site to accommodate other Filipino boxers.

Secuya said Pacquiao has revived and sustained fan interests in Philippine boxing with the thousands of forum members in the website as proof.

According to him, at least 3,000 regular forum members visit the site on a daily basis and its membership expands beyond Philippine shores.

It has also attracted many noted sports scribes, both local and foreign boxing experts, who now regularly contribute articles and opinions to the website.

Secuya recently visited General Santos City upon the invitation of Pacquiao who celebrated his 30th birthday on December 17.

He said Pacquiao could still sustain the momentum of revival in the country for the next five years.

"Manny can follow the footsteps of De La Hoya if he plays his cards right. He is now on top of the boxing world and its biggest draw," Secuya said. (EGE/Sun.Star General Santos/Sunnex)
