2 Sayyafs bolt Basilan jail By Bong Garcia
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Seven inmates, including two alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf, escaped from the provincial jail in Basilan, known as hotbed of the bandit group, a military official disclosed Wednesday.
The two bandits were identified as Gerardin Majakil and Ramil Sulayman. The two were allegedly involved in the beheading of nine Marine soldiers in Al-Barka town in July last year.

First Lieutenant Steffanie Cacho, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer said the inmates were brought outside their detention cells at the Basilan Provincial Jail around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday when they overpowered their guards and snatched their weapons.
Cacho said the inmates took the opportunity to escape since there is only one jail guard that was guarding them while having their regular morning exercise.
She said four of the seven escapees were immediately recaptured in a manhunt operation that was launched.
No immediate identities of the other escapees as well as those recaptured were immediately available. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
