Under Proclamation No. 1695, January 2 was declared as an additional special non-working holiday throughout the country as it falls on Friday.
"A longer weekend encourages families to get together and strengthen their relationship towards a more productive environment as well as promotes domestic tourism and enable the employers to plan their work schedules effectively and efficiently, resulting an improved productivity," the Proclamation stated.
Earlier, President Arroyo declared Dec. 26 and 29 as non-working holidays through Proclamation No. 1463 in line with her "holiday economics."
Aside from these dates, the Palace also released the list of holidays for the remainder of 2008, which the President signed last Feb. 18.
Among these are the regular holidays: Dec. 25 (Thursday) - Christmas Day; and Dec. 30 (Tuesday) - Rizal Day and special non-working holidays: Dec. 31 (Wednesday) - last day of the year.(JMR/Sunnex)
