Three more drown in Pampanga River
SAN LUIS -- Less than a week after three children drowned to death in the Pampanga River in Apalit town, three more persons drowned again in the river Sunday in Barangay San Agustin here.
The victims were identified as Roel Hernandez, 16; Maya Maura, 18 and Edward Miranda, 20, all from Barangay San Nicolas in the City of San Fernando.
All three victims were said to be friends, who went out for a swim in the river.
The deaths of the first three victims in Apalit came right after the June 28 feast of Apung Iru or St. Peter, where an exploratory cruise in the Pampanga river was made, aimed at improving tourism in the province.
Police reports revealed that Sunday's victims decided to go swimming at about 8 a.m., but upon reaching a deep portion of the river, suddenly went underwater and drowned to their deaths.
Authorities said that Maura's body was the last to be recovered two hours later.
Meanwhile, a follow up search for other possible drowning victims are still being conducted, reports said.
Only last week, three children ages 7 and 9, were reported to have drowned in the Pampanga river, in Barangays Sulipan and San Juan, Apalit town.
The victims were identified as Mario Lapure, 7, of Sulipan, Rhaking Galang and Raven Nunag, both 9 years old, of San Juan.
Galang and Nunag's bodies were seen floating in the river at about 3:30 p.m., last Sunday in San Juan.
They were earlier spotted sitting along the river's bank, waiting for the arrival of the fluvial parade of St. Peter.
Two days later on Tuesday, Lapure's lifeless body was found floating in the river in Barangay Sulipan. He was last seen playing under the Sulipan Bridge over the river.
In a separate incident, a 21-year-old man was killed Saturday in Barangay Pulong Santol in Porac after sustaining a gunshot wound in the body.
Victim Christopher Dais, single, of Bais City, in Negros Occidental, was declared dead on arrival at the Porac Hospital, after sustaining a gunshot wound in the left chest.
Initial investigation showed at about 7 p.m., Dais was walking along with a friend in Pulong Santol, when upon reaching the Villa Julita Resort, suddenly got hit by a bullet simultaneously with a loud gun shot, of still unknown origin.
Investigators are looking into the angle that a stray bullet due to indiscriminate firing hit Dais. TSN
