Voters' registration reset to August 18 By Minerva Arceo
SAN FERNANDO -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has rescheduled the resumption of voters' registration in Central Luzon and other parts of the country to August 18.
Earlier, the Comelec announced that the temporary suspension of voters' registration will be lifted August 4, but Comelec offices in Pampanga posted the new resolution Monday, moving the schedule to August 18.
Resolution No. 6274 promulgated July 30 and signed by Comelec commissioners and Chairman Benjamin Abalos, stated that the resumption of the continuing registration was moved because of the need to retrieve some 1,000 data-capture machines used in general registration in Armm and Isabela City, Basilan recently.
"Whereas, the Commission will have to retrieve the said data-capture machines for testing, repair or replacement of defective parts, before they are redeployed to their designated end-users in time for the resumption of the system of continuing registration," the Comelec said.
It was also added in Resolution No. 6274 that the schedule of registration in the Armm and Isabela City, Basilan be extended until August 5 while the resumption of continuing registration in all areas, except in the NCR, Cotabato City, Iligan City and Zamboanga City, is on August 18 to November 14 "instead of August 4 to October 31."
Those who want to register are required to bring one 2x2 photo and a photocopy of any valid ID, postal ID, driver's license or a birth certificate.
Meanwhile, those who want to transfer their registration are only required to fill up necessary Comelec forms.
In an interview earlier, Gov. Lito Lapid said his application for transfer of registration to Angeles City is set to be processed as soon as the continuing system of registration resumes.
The governor expressed optimism that his application would be processed because he has filed all the requirements asked from him by the Comelec.
He also said that whoever wants to oppose his transfer of registration is free to file a complaint before the Comelec.
Lapid's application for transfer of registration became controversial as he declared his plans to run as mayor of Angeles City.
His would-be rivals have been opposing his transfer from Porac to Angeles City in their bid to block his candidacy.
