Suspect in 8-year-old girl’s rape arrested By Rhay G. Navales
A SUSPECT in the rape of an eight-year-old girl early this year fell into the hands of the police Thursday during a follow-up operation by elements of the Special Operations Group here.
Supt. Rosve C. Manulid, the town’s police chief, identified the suspect as one Ram-Ram Manansala y Santiago, 22, of 582 Jackfruit Street, San Francisco, this town. He was arrested at his residence at about 4 p.m. last October 9, 2003.
According to Manulid, the suspect was apprehended by virtue of an arrest warrant issued recently by Judge Ofelia T. Pinto of the Regional Trial Court Branch 60 in Angeles City.
Reports have it that sometime last year Manansala brought Yveth (not the victim’s real name) to a vacant lot along Jackfruit Street in Barangay San Francisco and allegedly raped the victim.
The suspect is now detained at the Mabalacat Police Station while facing charges in court for violating Republic Act 8353 or the Rape Law.
PO1 Grace Garcia, officer-on-case, disclosed that they filed statutory rape charges against Manansala before the Provincial Prosecutors Office on April 14, 2003 under Information Sheet (I.S.) No. 03-D-1057.
Yveth suffered multiple minor lacerations in her genitalia, it was learned.
Manansala denied the charges against him.
